The term “hosting” doesn't describe just one service, but a set of services which offer different functions to a domain address. Having a site and e-mails, for example, are two individual services though in the general case they come together, so a lot of people consider them as one single service. The truth is, every single domain name has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that handles each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, that defines where the website for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain. As an illustration, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the email will be forwarded to the correct server. The idea behind working with separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you may have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan through us, you are going to be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. Provided that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change specific records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or e-mails pointed to another provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will even allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain in any way. If you want to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with only a couple of clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. Also you can set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for each of your domains or subdomains is extremely easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you'll not experience any problems if you want to move your site or e-mails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you could also create additional MX records and set a specific priority in accordance with the instructions of the new provider.
